Baixa In the heart of the city's historical district.

Hello Lisbon Baixa Ouro Collection Apartments is located in the heart of the city's historical district. If you search “Rua do Ouro” in your navigation app, it will accept the search but will direct you to “Rua Áurea” (both mean Gold Street). Ask any local for Rua do Ouro and they will not hesitate to point you in the right direction, even if there isn’t any sign with this name. A street full of history, Rua do Ouro is today known by the name given to it by the people of Lisbon at the time the city was rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake and King D. José I ordered the installation of all the goldsmiths here. Rua do Ouro may not exist in the official toponymy, but it certainly exists in the private jargon of Lisbon dwellers. Curiously enough, it connects two other places with a similar story: two of Lisbon's most important squares, Praça do Comércio and Praça de D. Pedro IV, are also commonly known by their popular names, Terreiro do Paço and Rossio, respectively.

Elevador de Santa Justa

Inaugurated in 1902, it is the only vertical elevator in Lisbon providing public service as it connects Baixa to Bairro Alto. This monument of Neo-Gothic inspiration, designed by Raoul Mesnier du Ponsard, a disciple of Gustave Eiffel, is a cast-iron structure enriched with filigree art work.

Arco da Rua Augusta Belvedere

The Arco do Triunfo da Rua Augusta is a triumphal arch located in the northern part of Praça do Comércio, over Lisbon’s Rua Augusta. Designed by Eugénio dos Santos, its construction was planned in 1759 as part of the reconstruction of downtown Lisbon orchestrated by the Marquis of Pombal following the destruction of downtown Lisbon in the earthquake of 1755.

Schedule: Every day from 9 am to 7 pm.

Núcleo Arqueológico da Rua dos Correeiros (NARC)

Close to the Arco da Rua Augusta, the premises of Millennium BCP bank occupy nearly an entire block of pombaline downtown Lisbon.

During refurbishing works carried out in this building from 1991 to 1995, the drilling of the pavement exposed archaeological structures of civilisations that over the centuries inhabited Lisbon.

Because of its unique characteristics - it gives you a glimpse of 2,500 years of Lisbon's history - this space, now called Núcleo Arqueológico da Rua dos Correeiros (NARC), although owned by a bank, is also part of Lisbon and the country's historical heritage.

There, you will discover traces of the many peoples that lived in Lisbon, namely in the Iberian-Punic, Roman, Visigoth, Islamic, Medieval, 16th Century and pombaline eras.

Visiting hours:
Monday to Saturday, from 10 am to 12 am and from 2 pm to 5 pm.
Closed on Sundays and public holidays.
